Logistics Day

We finally have all the tickets purchased and are set to roll — one small problem, we have to figure out all sorts of logistics for getting our Santa to hotels, how is he going to pack with only 2 carry ons and tons of equipment for video blogging, how are we going to video blog, the list it turns out to be a full conference room white board worth.

I think we have it figured it out, but I think we came close to losing our minds along the way. Here’s how it will work…

We decided that fresh clothes and care packages will be double boxed (inside box with labels to ship back the older ripper ones) and sent via FedEx to the next nights hotel.

We are going to purchase the hotels in 2 day increments once our grumpy Santa has pretty much started the previous days leg and we have reviewed the weather forecast, so if we get delayed on the schedule we don’t have to throw away too many hotel rooms — if a package gets stuck at a location we’ll have to call the hotel to have them open it and send it back (since Santa won’t be coming).

The backup plan for our Santa if he misses a connection is to quickly jump into action to get him to the next possible location to continue on the journey (we figure we have about a 20% chance of success in completing the entire purchased itinerary — at least that is what I put in in the office pool).

We purchased all sorts of power equipment, thin power strip in case Santa needs to recharge 4 things at once and doesn’t have to do hand to hand combat over the single outlet at many of his favorite airports.

We purchased a thin wireless printer so Santa and his helper could print out all their boarding passes the night before to optimize security issues (not having to exit and renter when we change airlines).

We also purchased 3G internet cards so in the bigger cities we would be guaranteed internet so Santa can blog and upload video (we will be testing how well paid and non-paid wireless connectivity works in the 56 airports Santa is visiting).

I really need Radar O’Reilly and Klinger to help out procuring everything and getting it in the right spot — they were both cheap and got the job done (at least thats my vague recollection of M*A*S*H).

The list is endless, all in 2 small carry-ons, for Santa and his helper … T-minus 3 days and counting …
